Pharmacodynamic Properties |
Mode of Action: Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, interfering with peptidyl transferase activity.
Spectrum: Effective mainly against Gram-positive bacteria and certain Gram-negative anaerobes. Particularly active against Mycoplasma spp., Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and some Clostridium spp. Limited activity against Enterobacteriaceae.
Additional Effects: Strong efficacy in respiratory and enteric infections of livestock. Bacteriostatic, but can be bactericidal at higher concentrations against sensitive organisms.
Key Features: Belongs to the pleuromutilin class of antibiotics. Widely used in veterinary medicine (pigs and poultry). Excellent activity against swine dysentery and enzootic pneumonia.
In short: Tiamulin fumarate is a veterinary pleuromutilin antibiotic with potent activity against mycoplasmas and anaerobic bacteria, making it a key drug for respiratory and enteric diseases in pigs and poultry. |
