Mode of Action: Binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis. Acts as a bacteriostatic macrolide but can be bactericidal at high concentrations. Spectrum: Strong activity against Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. Particularly effective against respiratory pathogens: Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Mycoplasma spp. Limited effect on Enterobacteriaceae. Additional Effects: High affinity for lung tissue, ensuring strong efficacy in respiratory infections. Long half-life, allowing sustained activity. Key Features: Veterinary macrolide antibiotic. Widely used for prevention and treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD), ovine respiratory disease, and swine respiratory disease. Administered via feed, water, or injection (caution: cardiotoxic if administered intravenously in animals). In short: Tilmicosin phosphate is a macrolide antibiotic with excellent lung distribution, widely used in veterinary medicine to control respiratory infections in cattle, sheep, and swine. |
