● Mode of Action: Binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Acts as a bacteriostatic macrolide, but may be bactericidal at higher concentrations against certain pathogens.  

● Spectrum: Strong activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Effective against respiratory pathogens including Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Mycoplasma spp. Limited activity against Enterobacteriaceae.   ● Additional Effects: Accumulates in lung tissue, providing prolonged action in respiratory infections. Long elimination half-life allows sustained therapeutic levels.  

● Key Features: Veterinary macrolide antibiotic. Widely used in cattle, swine, and sheep for treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases. Not for intravenous use in animals due to cardiotoxicity.
