Specification

Appearance: White to off-white crystalline powder

Assay: ≥ 98% (API standard)

Solubility: Practically insoluble in water; soluble in some organic solvents

Common dosage forms: Oral suspension, tablet, paste, premix, bolus (for veterinary and human use)

Pharmacodynamic Properties

Mode of Action: Benzimidazole anthelmintic; binds to β-tubulin in parasites, inhibiting microtubule formation → blocks glucose uptake → energy depletion → parasite death.

Spectrum: Broad-spectrum; effective against gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms, and many cestodes (tapeworms). Also has ovicidal activity (acts on parasite eggs).

Key Features: Effective against both adult and immature stages of many parasites Widely used in veterinary medicine (ruminants, horses, swine, pets) and sometimes in humans Low water solubility; formulations improve bioavailability Generally well tolerated with a good safety margin

In short:  Fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic that kills parasites by blocking microtubules and starving them of energy, effective against nematodes, some cestodes, and lungworms.
