Appearance: White to yellowish crystalline powder

Assay: ≥ 95% (API standard)

Solubility: Practically insoluble in water; soluble in organic solvents (e.g., ethanol, methanol)

Common dosage forms: Tablet, oral suspension, injectable, pour-on, premix

Mode of Action: Binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells → increases chloride ion influx → hyperpolarization → paralysis and death of the parasite.  

Spectrum: Broad activity against many nematodes and ectoparasites (mites, lice), but ineffective against cestodes (tapeworms) and trematodes (flukes).

Selectivity: Selective for parasites due to poor penetration of the mammalian blood–brain barrier.
